The Maryland Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (MSPEN) will convene for an exciting education opportunity on Thursday, April 23rd at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
The distinguished speaker will be Dr. Thomas J. Smith MD, FACP, FASCO, FAAHPM. Dr. Smith is the Director of Palliative Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institution and he will be presenting a lecture titled “Nutrition Support & End of Life Issues”. The presentation will focus on the differences between hospice and palliative care, the ways in which both hospice and palliative care improve quality of life, the quality of care, discern and meet choices for medically appropriate care, reduce costs, and improve survival and the difficult choices about nutrition in serious illness, especially near the end of life. Light refreshments will be provided and the program will offer 1.5 CEUs to Dietitians and 2 live credits to Pharmacists.
